In the simplest terms, these present the summary of our Faith. It is the summary of what Catholics believe in.

The 12 Articles of Faith is also known as the Apostles Creed.

​

​

It is separated by 12 parts which individually tells us our beliefs.

Also, the word Creed is also means “symbol”.

The Apostles Creed

​

1. I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

​

2. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

​

3. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

​

4. Under Pontius Pilate, He was crucified, died, and was buried.

​

5. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.

​

6. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. 

7. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

​

8. I believe in the Holy Spirit,

​

9. the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,

​

10. the forgiveness of sins,

​

11. the resurrection of the body,

​

12. and the life everlasting.

​

The Difference of Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed

​

​

Overall, they are just the same. However the Nicene Creed is more accurate translation of the original text of the Prayer. The Apostle’s Creed widely used here in the Philippines, but it is less accurate than the Nicene Creed.

Recent Changes

​

Few years back, The Church  started converting from old Apostles Creed to the more comprehensive prayer, the Nicene Creed. It is said that the Nicene Creed is the more accurate English translation of the Prayer. It gives us more understanding about our Catholic Faith.

Nicene Creed

​

I believe in one God,

the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

​

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit

was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son

is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

​

I believe in one, holy,

catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one baptism

for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.
